looking for character replaceable licensable games

Whew - what a title.

i have a client who wants to license an online playable game (most likely a flash game I'm guessing) which is a fast download. Pretty simple game. But they want to replace the main characters with their characters. So the game should be already set up and we (ideally) swap out the art with their characters.

Does anyone here have any links they could help me with to start my rather time sensitive search?

Thank you.

The bean counterculture

After 16 years in the game biz, I've been around long enough to here every bitch and moan many times. One of the more frequent (and well justified) is that publishers are so risk-adverse as to rarely support new, innovative ideas in games (although they nearly all claim to be in the business of innovation and creativity).

I came across this column in Communication Arts and thought it addressed the issue well and thought I'd share it as grist for the mill. The section that applies here:

"The bean counterculture
John Moore, former Starbucks and Whole Foods marketing executive and author of Tribal Knowledge: Lessons Learned From Working Inside Starbucks, runs a blog called Brand Autopsy. Last year, he wrote a post titled, “Is it Making Money or Making Meaning?” While the piece was referring to what’s more important to an employee, finding meaning in a job or making money, John could just as easily have been discussing the role that risk aversion in the name of making a profit plays in the growth of ideas.

Most of us would agree that this is not exactly the golden age of filmmaking. Citizen Kane would have a hard time getting made in 2007, but a Citizen Kane remake, sacrilege though I know it is to even suggest the thought, might stand a better chance.

Why is that?

Because the bean counters have stormed the control room and bean counters know where their bread is buttered and they aren’t taking chances on something new and different. So we are subjected to Scooby-Doo, Starsky & Hutch, the Mission Impossible saga, S.W.A.T., The Brady Bunch, Charlie’s Angels, Lost in Space, Thunderbirds, Car 54 Where Are You?, The Hulk, Little Rascals, Mod Squad, I Spy and McHale’s Navy.

There is nothing wrong with caution. Creativity is a hard thing to measure. It could soar. It could crash and burn. No one ever really knows for certain. So it’s understandable that any company, movie studio or otherwise, is going to be more willing to stick its neck out for the familiar, the comfortable. Creative societies are courageous societies. If we’re not willing to risk failure, if we’re not willing to encourage it, our ability to keep pace creatively with the rest of the world is going to be dangerously hampered.

The war on creativity is real. If you have not felt it yet, you will. It grows by the hour. But it’s not too late. As Ebenezer Scrooge can tell you, these are not the images of things as they will be, but things as they might be. We can turn it around. We can open our minds. We can give the inborn creativity in our children water and light and nourishment and give it room to grow and become brilliant and mighty. We can dig a hole in the ground and we can bury fear and suspicion and preconception and intolerance.

We need to stand up for creativity.

We need to rally the armies of innovation from wherever we can find them.

We need to win this war. "

Now, he comes from the perspective of a graphic designer/illustrator and the rally cry doesn't do devs much good except to make us churn all the more. Still, it begs the question of how do we break out of the cycle of developing the same old 5-6 games over and over again?

http://tribes.tribe.net/hybridart

This is a place to post collaborative works and to find others interested in collaborative projects. Being able to easily send large files back and forth across the planet is a relatively recent innovation, so my hope is that this tribe works as an incentive for people to do so. And if you are fortunate enough to have other artists who wish to collaborate within a reasonable physical distance, then please join and post your works!

Deadline: Experimental Gameplay 2007

This Friday is the deadline for this year's Experimental Gameplay Workshop submissions:

http://experimental-gameplay.org

The Experimental Gameplay Workshop is a concentrated mini-conference that happens yearly at the GDC. If you're working on an innovative / experimental / original game, we encourage you to check out the web site and submit your work. Also, please forward this announcement to other game designers -- in the past, we've gotten in touch with some very interesting projects solely by word of mouth, and those projects went on to get good exposure at the conference.

Tzolkin Music available for Tzolkin Game Developer

We produce acoustic translations of the Mayan Sacred Calendar. They are actual sonic renderings of the Tzolkin's inner harmonic interplay. We're getting the feeling that some company out there is developing a kick butt game based on the Tzolkin that would do best to have the actual Music of the Tzolkin, rather than a subjective soundtrack. If anyone out there has an association with such a company, please direct them to us via this web page: http://www.Darkmother.com/ascension.html

The game developers tribe. As the title suggests, this tribe is about bringing experienced artists together to create a amazing game.

Obviously this tribe is oriented towards hobbyists, as there will be no payment. However, there is a future in this tribe: profit may be in a not-to-distant future.

Recruiting, general discussion, and tribe-related questions will occur here; business, art exchange, and work-sharing will be conducted via email and other more efficient means.

Teenagers Losing Interest in Video Games, Says Survey

http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=8843

Piper Jaffray has announced the results of its 11th bi-annual proprietary research survey on teen spending habits and retail brand perceptions, titled "Taking Stock With Teens", which dealt with fashion and technology but also video game-related questions for North American teenagers.

Senior Retail Analyst Jeff Klinefelter, along with a team of senior research analysts conducted mall research field trips with approximately 700 teens from 12 high schools in nine states across the country and Canada. Additionally, the team surveyed another 1,235 students across the country through a partnership with the national DECA organization in an online survey.

With particular reference to video games, results of the survey point out that 81 percent of surveyed student households have at least one video game platform, and 59 percent of students state that they are occasional game players (playing at least monthly).

Interestingly, almost 80 percent of teens indicated that they intend to spend less time playing video games in 2006 and nearly 70 percent indicated that their interest in playing video games is decreasing.

---

Could this be due to the flood of safe and somewhat unoriginal titles or more due to fact that the Xbox, PS2 and Gamecube are reaching the end of their cycle?

Game Developer Talent Search

What's up guys.
I'm new to this Tribe.net thing, so work with me if you can. :)

Anyway, My name is Joe. I've been working in the Video Game Industry for over 13 years now. I'm looking into assembling a team to build side projects for mainstream console & handheld machines. I don't have money, but I DO have a great deal of connections & resources.

This means I can't pay anyone right now. However, this doesn't mean that no one would EVER see payment. My goal is simply to assemble a highly talented & creative development team to collaborate & create fresh new games with mass appeal that innovate, not create games that are built exclusively with money in mind.

If you are someone who has game development skills, passion to make games and/or looking for an in - this could very well be your shot.

email me @: sickboy573@yahoo.com
SERIOUS INQUIRIES ONLY PLEASE.

If you have any interest at all in working at Snowblind, and already have already shipped at least 1 title (or are close to doing so), please send me your resume. I tried to headhunt some of my most talented and favorite old co-scripters to come do systems design / gameplay scripting with me, but they're being sticks in the mud. Bah.

Can't Decide Career

I'm not sure if I want a career in film or Video Games...

What kinds of jobs do people have here?

Right now I'm about to get a 2 yr degree in visual communications...I like drawing, and I make good art sometimes but I don't know if I have what it takes in the long run..to do Conceptual artist stuff.. I know I don't want to be a traditional print designer. I'm also interested in 3d level design.

Also... I can compose music, but it sounds like game companies hire game by game. I would want a permanent-real-job.

My problem is that I'm not sure what I like, and what I can be succesful in. Its getting too late to set myself up for failure and go down the wrong path.

Ultimately I want a decent amount of Cash, and be able to feel proud of something I made and just stare at it...be creative and get better at what I can do.

any thoughts?

3D Modeller Job

A guy in Redwood City has need of a 3D modeller. Ideally, one who has 'game' sensibilities, as this will be a real-time, interactive model. And most ideally, someone who knows what 'aura' and 'chakra' mean, as you would be modelling 'the human aura'. Target platform is X3D, ideally using VizX3D, but Max, Maya OK too. Pay negotiable. Work anywhere, would be nice if you could stop by Redwood City to meet once in a while.

2D gaming startup

I'm planning on starting a small couple person gaming company focused around simple 2D games. My plan for the company was to first create a nice high level (simple and powerful) and portable 2D gaming engine that does rendering, sprites, IO, etc for you and to make it open source. I then was planning on creating a number of simple games (SMB-like, puzzle, board) as well as some slightly more complex ones (RPGs). Each game would be very cheap to download ($1-$10) and some simple ones (like tetris) would even be free. In each game I would make sure to make a multiplayer aspect that would allow to you play with your friends over your LAN (for free) or through the official server (for a small amount $1-$5/month).

Being that the games would be fairly simple (the graphics would be about the same quality of a SNES) and all of the dirty stuff with be taken care of for you (IO, sprite animation, porting to alternate platforms, rendering, etc), rather than focusing all of our resources on the best cutting edge stuff out there we could focus on gameplay. I want to have a company that focuses on making fun games rather than simply ones that push your GFX card to the max.

As far as where I'm at right now, I have collected together many of the things needed for the engine. So far I have a nice quality 2D graphics rendering engine as well as a portable IO/GFX/Sound library. I next have to bridge the two together and create my sprite renderer and other things on top of it. I will only be working at bits and pieces for a couple of months and won't be able to work at it full time till Feb. 2006. I then don't plan on having a nice suite of games produced till at least 2007.

I'm not posting this here to ask for people to work on this with me as I don't need help yet and won't need any till 2006 rolls around (perhaps around that time I could use some, but time will tell). I am more or less posting this to see what the general opinion is. I want to know if you would be willing to pay $2 for a puzzle game or $7 for a RPG. I want to know if anyone thinks that this will succeed or if I should rethink my plans before I get in too deep.

Creating Game Simulation

Hello. I am creatng a lot of video elements for a show and one of the sections will require a specific character to be animated in a Half Life 2 or an Unreal 3 type game engine jumping around and shooting "bad guys" (probably mechanical huge machines).

Most of my staff will be working on the other aspects of the show - so I will be looking for some help in this endeavor. Yes, it's a paid job.

But first, I'm just looking for suggestions on the approach. I have not done any game modding since Quake 1 - so here are a few questions.

1) From your experience, would it make more sense to simulate the game in a 3D program since the character does not have to be interactive?

2) If using a 3D game engine - which game engines will allow me to use this for commercial purposes (like machinima being incorporated into a larger project)? I think Half Life 2 was allowing this, correct?

3) If using a game mod - where would I find someone extremely capable of doing this? I could provide modeling or whatever aspects the mod'er wasn't as strong with.

4) Again, doing the mod method - about how long would it take to create a few (3) minutes of animation of this female action character shooting these machines?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Electronic Arts Ends Graphic Artists' Overtime Suit

http://www.technewsworld.com/story/YyfE0SL1dWy0QE/Electronic-Arts-Ends-Graphic-Artists-Overtime-Suit.xhtml

Video game publisher Electronic Arts (Nasdaq: ERTS) Latest News about Electronic Arts said yesterday it would pay US$15.6 million to settle a class-action lawsuit by computer graphic artists seeking overtime compensation.

The suit, filed in July 2004, alleged the company improperly classified the workers as exempt from overtime and sought unspecified damages.

Trade Overtime for Stock

Under the settlement, which must still be approved by a Superior Court judge, roughly 200 entry-level employees will be reclassified as eligible for overtime pay, said Trudy Miller, an Electronic Arts spokeswoman. They will be able to earn overtime, but will no longer receive stock options.

"We're moving on, and this is a milestone in what has been an ongoing look at how we work," Miller said yesterday.

Redwood City, Calif.-based EA, the world's largest video game maker, was one of a number of game companies that came under fire in recent years for demanding grueling hours without paying its workers compensation. Until it adopted a new overtime policy earlier this year, Electronic Arts, like many other high-tech companies, mostly offered stock options.

The new policy -- and now the settlement -- both reflect a trend throughout the technology industry of increasingly rewarding workers with cash instead of stock-option grants, which during the 1990s often translated into huge windfalls.

Still, the vast majority of EA's 6,500 employees remain exempt from overtime, Miller said. More Litigation to Come

Bob Schubert, a San Francisco attorney who represented the plaintiffs in the lawsuit, would not comment on the settlement. His law firm has another class action lawsuit filed on behalf of EA's engineers pending.

But generally, he said, "our view is that these are all production workers in the industry. They're like steel workers. They're at the first level of the pyramid and should be entitled to overtime pay."

RTS Engine

Greetings All, New on the scene myself.

I'm thinking the only way I'm going to get into the gaming market is to just make something playable, then hit up any development studios, or at that point launch my own products.

I have beating my head against a brick wall for a while on this, and figuring out, I probably better on my own anyways.

I have designed and made Pen and Paper RPG systems, programmed many “casual” games, in my earlier days of programming, “Back in the Dos and win 3.+ era” Getting my feet back into the water with C# and self learning as I did the previous languages that I had learned.
I have the 3D programs and graphics designing down, as with sound editing “My wife, luckily is active in the music industry and has been in a handful of local bands that have done really well."

I have the game system, units, and formulas worked out for a PRTS, Persistent Real-Time Strategy game. “Yep a genre buster.” And wondering if anyone out there has a RTS engine in C# that you would like to sell or co-op develop on, as I'm not looking forward to making this thing from scratch. Though I will if I gotta.

I also have the interaction tables and AI process worked out for the computer controlled units/players. Though it is all modular, I and testing it with text based or simplified graphics representation it appears to do what it should be doing.

Gads, I'm thinking I'm going to have to put a year or more on the RTS graphics engine itself.

Any leads or input anyone? (C# is the key word here)

Needed: Speakers for Game Development

All,

I am currently looking for speakers that would like to talk to students about game development.

I am the new Technical Director of a new Center for Game Development at a university on the Monterey Peninsula. We are currently looking for professionals working in the game industry who would like to help us educate young minds in game dev.

We need speakers for the introductory class at the university. The class is a lecture series style. Each week we hope to have new speakers come in to talk about different areas from the game industry.

We are covering everything from Artwork for Games, 3D Modeling for Games, Game Design, Game Strategy, Sound and Music for Games, MMOG/Networked Gaming, and the Business & Marketing of Games.

We all ready have a few speakers, but we are looking for more.

There is a small honorarium for speakers. But, because of funding restrictions the University does not have the funds to fly people in for the program. So we are looking for people in the SF Bay Area / Monterey Peninsula. Unless you are willing to pay for your own flight. ;-)

If you are interested, and would like to help us start our program with a bang and shape the future careers of hopeful game developers please contact me at my tribes email.

Thanks for your time and help.

Some of you may know that the video game company I worked for ran into some financial trouble and laid off most of its staff right before the E3 Expo. Crystal Dynamics in the Bay Area (Soul Reaver: Legacy of Kain, etc) made me an offer a few weeks ago. I start working on a super secret project right after 4th of July weekend! I can't wait.

Hi,

I'm new to this game developer tribe thing, so I thought I join and see what's up.

I am an Indie game developer and am currently working on a 3d game engine for a team. Development is going well, later on I will drop by here to see if anyone is interested working on a game project :).

A little help learning.

well I have a couple of questions here.

First I was woondering what is a good programming language to start out with just to learn about the process of programming with out having to deal so much with complicated set ups, and ways of doing things. and on top of that I would like to know some good books to pick up about said language.

secondly I was wondering if there was anyone who would be willing to mentor me over the net in programming. or one step beyond that if there was someone in the Sea-Tac area who would be willing to get together and perhaps mentor me that way.

Designers ... Care to collaborate on a concept

Hi everyone. I have been working on a game concept that I would like to develop as a PC game. I know fairly little about programming, save for a bit of Visual Basic and some knowledge of databases. I don't want to devulge to many specifics here, but the concept it a Strategy game, vaguley along the lines of the Sims, though with a much more specific focus. I was wondering where I mught find programmer or game developer types who might be interested in collaborating on such a project. The creative elements of the game and most of the gameplay mechanics are pretty well in place, but obviously needs a lot of work as far as how those mechanics would be executed, as well as fleshing out the design.

Any programmers or designers out there looking for a project and interested in hearing my pitch?

Seeking help to create an RTS

Hi everyone, I'm Graham.

I'm here to find programmers, artists and other persons with game developement knowledge. A few friends and i are making an RTS game set in the year 2055. Its going to be a simple game. Similar to COmmand and Conquer where you just build and go. No need to create tons of workers to harvest minerals, food, gas... only a few to build. We're hoping to create a full 3D engine but a 2D w/ some nice 3D effects would be nice.

Right now i dont want to divulge any information but we have the storyline completed. We also have some concept art being created as i write this. Also some gameplays elements have been worked out. We cant do all that much more until we find an engine to run the game. We are hoping to create our own but none of us have any programming skills.

If you know and are experience enough to create a game engine in C++ please post some of your info.

Other help needed
- 2D-3D artist
- Additional concept artists
- Help with sound and music
- EVERYTHING.

We are in the earliest stages right now. But we are organized. If you want more info or are interested in helping post a message or email me.

Thanks!

So I've got this sex machine...

So I've got this sex machine and it's internet controlled. The current interface was built in flash that triggers java scripts.

I've been thinking about how cool it would be to have an interface for game consoles that are internet equipped. I'm thinking of something like an XXX Box. LOL

Really I have everything ready to go and I'm going to bring it live (again) by mid July.

I am not a Game Developer, just your average every day Visioneer, so my questions to this esteemed tribe are the following:

1. Can this be done?
2. If so, is it an easy project?
3. How long would it take to build out and launch?
4. Would people be interested in partnering on a revenue sharing model?

The machine is called thethrillhammer. I have a site called, yes you guested it... www.thethrillhammer.com

The super secret project I am launching in mid-July is going to be called The Robo Bunny... Not done branding the interface but this site will give the skinny www.robobunnybucks.com

I think it would be a cool first to market opportunity with awesome bragging rights. On top of that think of the pleasure we will bring to the world of the women riding the machine and the gamers sitting at home...

So what do you all think? Am I nuts? Wait don't answer that... Who is game?

I figured I'd start a new thread on the whole "introducing yourself" thing.

My name is Paul, and I just moved to LA from NYC to pursue a design career. I was a first-time designer on Neverwinter Nights: Shadows of Undrentide last year, and decided to make it a steady career. However living in New York and being a professional game designer don't mesh that well, so here I am.

Currently I'm doing QA for Insomniac while interviewing for design positions as they come up. I would've liked to come out with a design job, but companies seem strangely adverse to paying to relocate a designer with only one shipped title. lol

I actually don't mind doing QA right now - it's definitely making me a better designer, and I've already had a couple of interviews (one of which would have resulted in a job if the Lead Designer hadn't had his budget cut right after doing interviews) so it seems like this was a good choice, even if I do miss NYC.

Anyway, sorry for the long post - good to be here!

In any case, my pre-registration was approved a few days ago and I now have plane tickets. I'm looking forward to a few days of not being chained to my desk.
www.nakedchicksonbikes.com

The game is selling online, but not well (well, not advertizing doesn't help). But I want to get it into the stores. This is where I think it will really sell.

Can anyone suggest a distributor for these games?

Is there any progress in collaborative game project? Introducing yourself is great, but seems it will lead to nothing. Am I wrong? Maybe we should start? There is nearly 150 in our tribe. I hope at least half of you aren’t just occasional subscribers. As I found most of us have some basic skills in mostly all areas of game development process. I think you want to go farther, but modeling just something useless will lead to nothing, believe me. Yes, you will get some skills and theory from tutorials, but all this without good practice is nothing. I guess, you want to participate in any kind of activity, be it some fun short animation or mod for game. Me too.

As description of tribe says

“Game developers unite! Join if you have any interest or experience in the following: creativity, gaming, art (graphic or sketch), programming, three-dimensional design, web design, or writing.“

If you member, that have lost your interest please unsubscribe, so we can see who has at least some fire in his eyes. Also those who want some alternative can try http://www.garagegames.com/
There are plenty of projects that need YOU.

Any ideas is appreciated. Sorry, if I was too firm, but I think we need firm measures. Words like maybe, can we try won’t help.

...US!
I joined this group thinking that I might contribute something instead of having to rot away.
Not even a post in a whole week let alone progress in a game.
Alright, heres a challenge.
Make a simple game before this year ends.
I call graphics (illustrations and sprite based along with some 3D).
We need programmers, artists and a cordinator.
We got about 150 in this tribe(lets not be a disfunctional tribe, I get enough of that from society).
We could go as 2 teams head to head.
Vote on which game to make and what/how much you can contribute (time, skill wise).
We want a Gameboy advance/Sony PSP quality game. The gneres are:
- Shooter (side or vertical)
- Card battle game (yu-gi-oh or Pokemon)
- Puzzle (NOT TETRIS)
- Story adventure (detective type)
This offer ends by 15/3. Stop dreaming. start doing.

Used to work at Infogrames (now Atari) in San Jose. Have about 4 years AP/external Producer experience, published lots of small titles, been with 2 large titles to Alpha.

Ideally want to stay in the Bay Area (San Jose area) but might be open to moving depending on company/area.

Hi there! I'm a writer and web developer and have recently become interested in how videogame stories are developed and scripted - the cut scenes, of course, but also the general plot, the character interactions, the puzzles, encounters, and so on. I finally realized that someone has to write and/or script those, and I wonder if anyone here can tell me anything about that part of the industry. Specifically, who does it (job title?), what technical knowledge (if any) they have to have about programming or design, and how a person might get started in the field. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!

Best Game Concept

What are some of the best game concepts that you've played? These may not be the best games, but they are ones where afterwards you said, "Wow, that was a good idea for a game."

Some of my favorites:

Rampart (Arcade) - Shoot at invading ships from your castle, they shoot back at you. In between battles you must rebuild your castle with tetris like pieces.

Rampage (Arcade) - You are a huge monster. To win you must break down buildings and eat people. Great idea.

Dracula (Intellivision) - You are dracula. Walk around the streets at night and knock on people's doors. Bite them if they're dumb enough to come out.

Bionic Commando (NES) - You are an elite military commando guy with a bionic grappling arm. This made for some awesome, swingy, gameplay that added a twish to the 2D side scrolling shooter.

Lemmings (PC) - Guide your lemmings through a peril filled level by giving them jobs of digging, ladder building, climbing, swimming, parachuting, or even exploding. If enough Lemmings make it through the level, you win.

Is this an invitation for anyone chill'in in our tribe (near Seattle, of course) to attend? Please tell us all about it. Perhaps elaborate on the people you're inviting and what specifically you'll be discussing/doing.

I've been kicking around ideas for real world spy games that use the survelleince network capabilities of phones... anyone else interested in this? I also have access to a biosensor/haptic/hmd research platform that can connect to phones/pda's... but I'm thinking primarily in terms of games that are doable with what is or soon will be in wide use.

Here are a few:

Photo scavenger hunts.
Getting photos of "enemy" team members- with location awareness- a top down map or compass direction/accelerometer data visualization.
Getting photos of the full set of enemy's tradeable "secret" objects.
Field version of hotornot.

Care to brainstorm further with me?

Here's the latest AGD meeting happening next week for folks in the Austin area:

-----

Much like the fabled Battlestar Galactica and its ragtag fleet of
starships combing the galaxy for the mythical 13th colony, the AGD
continues its search for new meeting locations and establishments to
nourish the bodies and souls of Austin's game developers. Our January
meeting is Tuesday, January 20th at 7:00pm.

Where:
TGI Friday's (at the Arboretum)
10000 Research Blvd.
http://austin.myfridays.com/2855.html
When:
Tuesday, January 20th
7:00 - 9:00 pm

Since this is an informal meeting, food and drink will be at your own
expense. We hope to see you there!

I wrote a tetrisesque game using Perl and the Tk module. It has a unique twist that can cause motion sickness in people. Check it out for yourself here:
http://www.bengarvey.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&file=index&req=viewdownloaddetails&lid=12&ttitle=Spewtris_v0.1.2

Or at the SourceForge page:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/spewtris

I included the source code and a windows binary (compiled under perl2exe) in the current release. Unzip all the files into a directory and run start.pl or the binary from that directory.

Hey all. My name is Chris Treagus, and I am fairly new to this tribe. Just thought I'd take the time to introduce myself.
I have been working in the game industry for the last two years, primarilly with writing story line and creating some characters, etc, plus creative consultation for a new product that should be coming out soon. (Unfortunately I have one of those pesky confidentiality clauses so I can say too much.)
Also, I am a fiction/novel writer. I am glad to find a tribe dedicated to game producing, though, as that it is an exciting field that I am proud to be a party of. I think some really exciting things are happening these days, and it seems to me that story and character developement are becoming stronger all the time. What does everyone else think?
Catch ya later,
Chris

www.unitedgamers.net/openlunacy << for the Open forums for the Game Development. This is for gemeral public to give us there voice and share their opinions.

www.unitedgamers.net/lunacyprojects << is the actually collab php system to be used for our game development.

There will be closed forums, but that URL will only be available to thos who have access to projects.

For more information to see what this is all about>> http://gamedev.tribe.net

Sorry this took so long to put together. Had the flu recently, but I'm all better. Sorry I am a couple days late of deadline.

For those interesting in starting projects, joining projects, or just want to voice some opinions, please go to the openlunacy forums. There will be Rules of Conduct and a basic lay out of how things will be going.

Thank you again for all who wish to take part in this program. It is experimental, free and I think may help break new ground, if done properly.

See you there!

Hi folks!

I'm a nuts and bolts guy - I work on game play mechanics.. no programming here ;p

Game physics.

For those of you who program: use this thread as a way to share any gaming physics you've made before.

Using any language you're comfortable with, post any modular code blocks you've written before.

Here's a code block I've made for a jump sequence (coded in C):

/* Variables X and Y represent our nameless sprite's X and Y screen coordinates.

SetSprite(char, X, Y) is a made-up function that takes three parameters: char represents the name of an image file, X and Y represent char's X and Y screen coordinates. */

int jump(int X, int Y) {

int ground;
float gravity, delta, boost;

ground = Y;
Gravity = 1.0;
delta = 0.1;
boost = 0.01;

do {
Y = Y - gravity;
gravity = gravity - delta;
setsprite(char, X, Y);
} while(Y < ground);

setsprite(char, X, Y);

return 0;

}

Got any code-blocks for accellaration, flying, etc? Post 'em!

Sketches and sprites.

I've added a few pictures to the photo album for our tribe. A concept sketch and a sample code block.

I'm not sure how tribe net works, but if possible, go ahead and post any game related images you may have for discussion. If this is permitted only to the tribe moderator (me), which I hope it isn't, then just send your images to me at my email: techemblem@yahoo.com.
