The game developers tribe. As the title suggests, this tribe is about bringing experienced artists together to create a amazing game.
Obviously this tribe is oriented towards hobbyists, as there will be no payment. However, there is a future in this tribe: profit may be in a not-to-distant future.
Recruiting, general discussion, and tribe-related questions will occur here; business, art exchange, and work-sharing will be conducted via email and other more efficient means.

Re: Introducing...
Tue, September 16, 2003 - 3:53 PMWell, I'm John. I have a little bit of experience in Java, C, and C++, and a bit more in Visual Basic. I started making an MMORPG in VB, which flopped.
I'm trying to focus on Java, and Game Design (Just bought "Chris Crawford on Game Design," Great so far.) in general. I'll try to help out in any way I can, and hope I recieve help if I need it, in return. Well, that's me. How about you? -

Re: Introducing...
Thu, September 25, 2003 - 6:02 PMHi, I'm a QA Analyst for a Game Company and wish to learn more about development. I'm new to Programming but have extensive background in Graphics, Audio, and am getting my feet wet in 3d Design and Map Modding for Vietcong, and Unreal Tournament 2003 Engines.
The UK is eventually going to absorb all our jobs at my present company and I'd like to gain enough skills to stay in the business without having to jump back into some mundane threshold of existence.
Looking forward to see what's on the horizon...

Re: Introducing...
Fri, September 26, 2003 - 1:38 PMWow. Sounds like we could both learn from each other. In addition to exchanging information, code, and graphics in this forum, I'm trying to find anyone willing to join a particular project I'm working on. As I've said before, anyone experienced in drawing (graphic or sketch), programming, web design, or general creativity is invited. Anyone who joins this tribe should get a personal message from me inviting them to exchange their email address. Once we've better established a means of communicado, we can better discuss the details.
Feel free to start any topics here... What are you interested in learning? I've got tons of info. -

Re: Introducing...
Sun, October 5, 2003 - 2:18 PMWell, I'm not anyone who can offer work of any kind, but I thought I'd introduce myself to the group in any case.
My name is Josie and I'm an AI Scripter for Zombie in Seattle. I'm currently going to school for my Associate of Science degree (mostly boring general education requirements at the moment) and plan on transferring into the UW's CS program once I'm done. After college, I'd like to try to get into Square/Enix or (if I can talk myself into standing the location/climate), Bioware. :)
Of course, there may be better options available at that point (3 years from now? ouch). -

Actually...
Sun, October 5, 2003 - 6:08 PMRareware was actually looking for employees last I saw. Graphics, programming, you name it, there was an opening.
Hey, anyone have any (any at all!) info on two-dimensional show reels? I'm not sure what they're expecting in that department.

Re: Introducing...
Sat, January 24, 2004 - 9:43 PMI actually applied for a SysAdmin posistion at Square/Enix. I didn't get the job, or an interview, but I did get a pretty rejection letter.. Its strange, because I've applied to hundreds of places, but never got a nice rejection letter.. If I would have got that job I would have ended up moving to Hawaii.. that would have been nice.

Sat, January 24, 2004 - 7:41 PMHi, I'm Toby, a Texture Painter/3D Modeler, worked on a few games doing various things ( Level Design, Texture Painting, Modeling, etc... )
I would really like to learn a bit more about building fighting systems for RPG's ( more specifically MMORPG's). I'm working on a Mod for UT2k3 Called "Killing Spree!" with a few friends. Other than that, I'm looking for people to collaborate with and professional contacts as well.

Re: Introducing...
Sat, January 24, 2004 - 9:47 PMdamn, lots of people here that actually develop games. I'd love to get into the game industry, but I don't think I could ever be one of the people developing the games. I could offer great input, but I'm not into the heavy math.
I'm more of a systems guy anyway, more into OS design. But I still love games.

Re: Introducing...
Sun, February 1, 2004 - 4:48 PMI'm not new to the game design/development biz...however, I've been working in other fields for a few years now...and now I'm switching gears again...so I'm looking forward to new opportunities in cross-discipline artforms for entertainment purposes...
I've also been recently turned on to the possibility of continuing my formal education (getting some new skills) at Digipen Institute...anyone here familiar with that school?
I'm a 3D/digital artist and ALSO a sound designer/music creator (professional composer) with interest in experimental technologies based on 12 yrs of interest in VR.
I'm interested in playing catchup and have a huge set of skills and software to accomplish the sort of productivity that I envision as necessary to take the next series of steps forward.

Re: Introducing...
Sat, February 14, 2004 - 12:21 PMGreetings to all.
Hi, I'm Teemu. I have been interested in making games my whole life, I've made few simple ones while I've been learning generally to program. I have experience mostly in C/C++ where I've coded some directX code but mostly openGL (using SDL for input, network etc), currently I'm learning python and more advanced programming techniques. I also have experience in making dynamic webpages (PHP/MYSQL), made some pocketmoney by doing some freelancework. That pretty much sums useful info about me considering this subject. -

Re: Introducing...
Thu, February 19, 2004 - 10:16 AMAlthough my background is in web design and development. Like most, I'm a jack of all trades and master of none - HTML, JSP, ASP, PHP, SQL, Javascript, Perl and all sorts of other acronyms and applications.
I recently finished a 10 1/2 month contract at Microsoft working on the XBox title Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge as a mission designer (sort of like a level designer without the intense 3D stuff, though I still had to learn MAYA and some XML stuff for scripting).
I'm currently a couple of classes away from my Associates of Science in computers to transfer for a 4 year programming degree, though I have some experience in Java and C++ already.
Lately, time permitting, I've been fooling around with UnrealEd for Unreal 2K3 and Unreal2 and writing some interactive fiction with the Inform tool.
I'd love to help, advise, or otherwise offer my skills as time permits.

Re: Introducing...
Fri, February 20, 2004 - 12:16 PMI'm currently available to give whatever time is needed. I worked at Infogrames (blech) San Jose as an Associate Producer for Test Drive Cycles (canned at Alpha, woopee!). Also worked as script writer for the UI on Looney Tunes racing. Produced a load of multimedia titles when I was living in the UK.
Looking ideally for a full-time gig in the bay area, but I'm happy to help with organization/TD documentation, UI design/flow. Done some pre-production work on a couple of big titles working with designers.

Hi, new to this..
Fri, February 20, 2004 - 12:59 PM..But not new to games as I have been playing VG's for the past 15 years. I am an Industrial Engineer with extensive background on 3D and 2D cel modeling & animation.
I enjoy mostly fighting games (KOF, Guilty Gear) and see a great future in games that have 2d characters and 3d backgrounds.
I can't contribute a lot, but I can do:
- Mecahnical designs (Mechs, war vehicals)
- Character designs (serious anime type 2d, cute 3d type)
- Architecture layout (Arabian design, palaces and castles).

Re: Introducing...
Mon, April 19, 2004 - 10:47 PMWell, what's there to say about me?
I'm a gamer geekess from Seattle, who currently freelances web based consultant work from home, and works part time as a game tester for the Xbox.
Currently working on a project with an indie dev co producing concept artwork, to generally force myself to draw and therefore practice, so that one day I might have something of a portfolio and actually go to art school. I even have the school picked out that I want to go to, I'm just not in a serious rush to get there.
I'm generally busy as all hell, but that's the way I like it. Despite that, I have a fairly decent social life, and enjoy meeting similar spirited, interesting people that share some of the same geeky obsessions.

Re: Introducing...
Wed, November 24, 2004 - 1:37 PMWell, I'm an Indie, but most of my IP is already tied up in another development project that has already taken 20 years to develop (and will probably take another 5-10 before it's market ready - so my time is limited)
But I do conceptual design work, and could help "cough-out" anything from levels, to systems, to cultures, to worlds, or even universes... Just let me know what you're into and I'll see if I've got the time for it... (I always like to keep my skills sharp)
But I'm also a shrewd businessman - if you want me to participate in building your company's IP value, then I'd want a stake of the company in exchange equivalent to my contribution for compensation. (We can save those particulars for later, if you're really interested)
If however, you're just plumming for free labor, I hate to be the one to say it, but get in line - there are a million other "indie projects" who are looking for the same. The only thing you can do to stand out is structure your business right and have something to offer those who would take time from other income producing endeavors...
(I've found it's pretty hard to convince someone to become homeless for the sake of making a video-game... and believe me, every Indie developer has tried! ;)

Re: Introducing...
Fri, April 21, 2006 - 8:08 AMI'm into game development mainly as a hobby. I've used Game Maker for a while, a tool for creating sprite based games. I decided to start learning 3D because I found sprites too limiting. My first attempts where with DirectX but I have given up on that for two reasons. First of all, it is the most confusing API I have ever seen and second, it is very difficult to use it with a non-Microsoft compiler. Now I'm trying to get something up and running with OpenGL, with more succes.
At the moment, I'm working on a simple 3D engine. Check out my blog for the progress report. I'm quite optimistic about it. It won't become a competitor for the Unreal engine, of course. I hope to do space combat games one day. -

Thu, November 30, 2006 - 6:58 PMHowdy! I'm excited to find other indie developers. I get the idea that this is a general forum for indy game developers.. though this post which i am responding to seems to suggest there is also a tribes based project in the works?
I'm designing a project right now called sleeepy sushi service, an indy 3D platformer. I'm probably going to pitch the project in a short while to see if I can develop it furthe.. I just put up a video on youtube if you care to see it
www.youtube.com/watch
Go go go go go indy developers!
